Critically acclaimed HBO series “The Newsroom” is making headlines not for Aaron Sorkin’s pithy writing, but because Alison Pill, who stars as Maggie, accidentally tweeted a topless photo of herself on Twitter.
The topless photo, which Alison Pill says she mistakenly tweeted Wednesday, shows the 26-year-old blonde “Newsroom” actress sprawled on a bed wearing nothing but thick-framed glasses and chapped lips. Pill quickly deleted the photo, but events have long tails in cyberspace. The photos remain in circulation.
Addressing her ‘tweeting while absent-minded’ episode, Alison Pill tweeted: “Yep. That picture happened. Ugh. My tech issues have now reached new heights, apparently. How a deletion turned into a tweet… Apologies.”
News of Alison’s rogue tweet spread like wildfire. But by Thursday morning, the “The Newsroom’s” Maggie had recovered, choosing to focus on current affairs. She began tweeting about breaking news in Libya and the Middle East. The payoff: since baring her pale bosom, Alison Pill’s twitter followers grew from around 14,000 to more than 21,000.
“The Newsroom” is a a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.
