S.C. Republican Rep. Joe Wilson braces for a House vote reprimanding him for shouting “You lie!” at President Obama last week during the President’s Joint Session with Congress.
Democratic aides said House leaders are preparing to introduce a resolution of disapproval this afternoon, with a vote likely later in the day, according to Associated Press.
Wilson offered President Obama what some labeled a “disingenuous’ apology for his outburst because he maintains that the President misstated facts during his speech. House Democrats believe Wilson should also apologize to Congress for what they call an unprecedented breach of decorum.
Wilson, defiant, refuses to do so, saying his initial apology was sufficient. His behavior heralded a flurry of rude behavior in the entertainment world, with Kanye West and Serena Williams shocking fans at the MTV VMAs and U.S. Open respectively. West interrupted award recipient Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to lobby for Beyonce, while Serena Williams, in James McEnroe style, exchanged heated words with a referee and ‘abused’ her tennis racket over a questionable call.
