Whatever Happened to Solomon Kane? (Video)

James Purefoy brings life to fictional character Solomon Kane, a 17th century Puritan with an attitude. “Solomon Kane,” created by the pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard, is a somber-looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms. His adventures, published mostly in the pulp magazine Weird Tales, often take him from Europe to the jungles of Africa and back. Now, writer/director Michael J. Bassett brings “Solomon Kane” to life on the big screen.

As the story goes, Kane, once a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth I fighting the Spanish in Africa, met the Devil’s Reaper and discovered he was bound for hell! He outfoxes the Reaper and renounces violence to atone for his past sins, seeking out redemption in a life of peace until he witnesses the brutal slaughter of a family, compelling Kane to embrace violence once again, but for good.

“Solomon Kane” was released worldwide in 2009 and is available via home entertainment, including DVD in most markets. In the US, it the film obtained limited release and is not yet available for home viewing.
