World Reacts to Conspiracy Claims of Ahmadinejad

The American Jewish Counsel (AJC) yesterday denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for using the UN General Assembly podium to level controversial charges against the United States over circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.

President Ahmadinejad “outdid his usual odious hyperbole,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Before the entire world, a man whose title is ‘president’ only because he stole an election and brutalized his people, confirmed that he is a leading 9/11 conspiracy nut. Astonishingly, he did so from the UN podium, located not far from the site of the Islamist terror attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center twin towers, killing nearly 3,000, nine years ago.”

Ahmadinejad on Tuesday told a U.N. General Assembly session on poverty that capitalism was on the verge of death and that it was time for a new economic system.
“The discriminatory order of capitalism and the hegemonic approaches are facing defeat and are getting close to their end,” he said at a summit meeting assessing progress on achieving U.N. goals to reduce poverty.

“The undemocratic and unjust governance structures of the decision-making bodies in international economic and political fields are the reasons behind most of the plights today humanity is confronting,” Ahmadinejad said, according to an English translation of his prepared remarks.

“The world is in need of an encompassing and, of course, just and humane order in the light of which the rights of all are preserved and peace and security are safeguarded,” Ahmadinejad said.

The AJC disagrees. “Ahmadinejad relishes denying historical truth, whether it is the Holocaust, his perennial favorite target, or now the September 11 terrorist attacks upon the United States,” said Harris. “Today, he not only defiled the memory of those lost on 9/11, but directly insulted their families, as well as every New Yorker. Let us recall that our great city has unfortunately been obliged to host Ahmadinejad and his cohorts all week.”

According to the Guardian, statesmen such as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Nick Clegg will denounce Ahmadinejad’s comments. Nick Clegg will today issue a “strong condemnation” of the Ahmadinejad, telling the UN that his claims, are “bizarre, offensive and attention-grabbing,” reports the Guardian.
