The director’s cut version of cult classic “Night of the Creeps” finally makes its way to DVD this October, and now fans will have a chance to meet the man behind the horror flick, Fred Dekker, at Comic-Con International San Diego. He’ll be on hand to sign autographs and to introduce the special edition version of his film.
“Night of the Creeps,” a campy sci-fi horror dramady about college co-eds who destroy a sorority house during pledge week to save mankind from alien parasites and their zombie progeny, marked the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Fred Dekker “RoboCop 3,” “Monster Squad”. The story begins in outer space with aliens struggling to contain an experiment gone awry and ends on terra firma with a big bang and some gnarly commentary about humanity’s pecking order.
Controversy surrounds the film because it has two endings, a studio ending and the director’s ending. The studio or theatrical ending, also featured in the VHS version, has Chris and Cynthia watching the sorority house burn down as the pesky cat that acts as a catalyst early on in the film returns and hurls an alien slug at viewers.
The alternate ending allows Detective Cameron to live a while longer and allows the aliens to return.
Mr. Dekker will be at signing autographs at the Sony Pictures Booth from 1:00pm-2:00pm Thursday, July 23, 2009.
