In a shocking turn of events, former “Megans Wants a Millionaire” reality-show contestant Ryan Alexander Jenkins was discovered hanged from a coat rack in a motel room in Canada on Sunday. According to CNN, Jenkins, 32, who was charged with his wife Jasmine Fiore’s slaying on Thursday, committed s suicide at the Thunderbird Motel in Hope, British Columbia.
The manager of the Thunderbird, Kevin Walker, told the Vancouver Sun that he saw a man now identified as Jenkins walking by his balcony at the motel over the weekend. “But he didn’t look like the Ryan Jenkins I’d seen on TV,” Walker said. “He looked like a man at the end of his rope, not the muscle-bound macho man you saw on TV.” Walker said the man had a sunken face and looked thinner than Jenkins did in the photos released by police. Jenkins’ body was found on Sunday when no one came to check out of his room at the required 11 a.m. time.
Canadian police launched a manhunt for Jenkins in Canada last week. Earlier on Sunday, Canadian authorities said they had received credible information that he was in the country and had called to turn himself in. According to the hotel’s manager, a woman had checked into the hotel three days earlier, saying she needed the room for at least three days, and paid in cash while a man waited outside in a silver PT Cruiser with Alberta license plates. The woman reportedly spent 20 minutes in the room with Jenkins and then was not seen again.
Jenkins was identified as a multi-millionaire investment banker when he appeared on the VH1 reality show “Megan Wants a Millionaire.” On Thursday the show’s producer, 51Minds, said that it was “not aware of Ryan Jenkins’ record” when he was cast, despite what producers believed was a thorough vetting process. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show has been canceled. VH1 executives have not yet decided what to do about the future of “I Love Money 3,” another reality show that also includes Jenkins and which has not yet aired.
