Far Right Fringe Groups March on Washington

9 12 teaparty1 Glenn Beck’s 9-12 group took to the streets of Washington, D.C. Saturday morning, carrying signs depicting President Obama as Adolf Hitler and the Joker, and chanting slogans such as “‘No big government” and “Obamacare makes me sick.” The protesters, along with members of FreedomWorks, a conservative activist group fronted by former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey, oppose President Obama’s health care reform initiatives as well as government bailouts initiated by the Bush Administration.

“Mr. Obama, you try to instill socialism into this country. Our message to you is “No you can’t,” said Debby Dooley, a Georgia woman, according to ABC News.

Meanwhile, President Obama rallied Democrats in Minneapolis, where he pitched his plan for a government-run health care option and reiterated many of the points he made in his eventful Tuesday speech to a joint session of Congress.

Although the protesters numbers this Saturday appear to have been just a few thousand, the outburst from S.C. Rep. Joe Wilson last Tuesday makes it appear unclear whether any concessions on the President’s part will win Republican votes for his plan.

  1. I am amazed at how wrong the depiction of the March on Washington on this site is. This is not only right wing people, there are more and more moderates and some open minded left wingers. I urge prople to go and see some of these on their own. Just walk around for 15 minutes and you’ll see these are just people concerned about their country and wanting to go back to the way it should be. They are not overly thrilled with BUSH, and certainly not OBAMA. BUSH spent way too much money, and OBAMA has spent more than every previous President added together. YOU and your KIDS have to pay for this. I do not want to… Wake up popdecay, you a a contributor to the corruption and lies….

  2. I’m amazed people FreedomWorks and Glenn Beck couldn’t get more people to show up. If their movement is as vast as the Right wants everyone to think it is, why were there fewer people there than at Obama’s Rally?

I’m also amazed at how the Right blames Obama for the mess he inherited from 8 years of Republican oligarchy.

Why don’t you Right-Wingers make yourselves useful and create legislation to reverse the ridiculous laws Bush, Cheney and their puppet Supreme Court implimented while in power.

  3. I cannot believe how wrong your article is. The National Park Service estimates that there were AT LEAST 1.2 MILLION people at this protest. Also these are not radical fringe group people. These people are everyday citizens that are sick and tired of government over spending. Most of the people at the rally were not all that happy with G. W. either!

Go find some of the traffic cam photos of the event and come back and try and say “thousands” again. Sure there were thousands. HUNDREDS of thousands.

    1. Here’s an excerpt from a 9/12/09 AP article that supports Popdecay’s number of protesters: “(AP) WASHINGTON — Tens of thousands of people marched to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.”

  4. I’m sorry to tell you but there were TONS more people there then “A few thousand.” That is the biggest load of BS I have heard in a long time.

Even MSM is saying there were at least 70 thousand people there. I was there and trust me there were at least that. I think there was way more but even 70 thousand is more then “a few thousand.”

And as far as this being, “right wing fringe groups” that is also false. These were working class Americans going to DC to tell President Obama that they are tired of his BS.

  5. Plenty of reputable sites say the numbers were more like several thousand. Some fringe sites and conservative leaning sites say there were millions. ‘YOU LIE’ just to make it seem like you Right-Wingers have a movement.

    1. Sorry, but your biased media is lying to you yet again and you are falling for it. Just go find pictures of the event. There are many if you actually want to find out the truth. There are several aerial (looks like traffic cam pics) pictures of the quad completely filled and over flowing into other areas.

Does that sound like “a few thousand”?

      1. Quote : “The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.”

Go read that again and look very closely at those last words. Two Washington agencies are saying there were far more people than a few thousand.

      2. Quote from ABC
“Carrying signs depicting President Obama as Adolf Hitler and the Joker, and chanting slogans such as “‘No big government” and “Obamacare makes me sick,” approximately 60,000 to 70,000 people flooded Pennsylvania Ave, according to the Washington DC Fire Department.”

It’s hard to say exactly how many were there with so many different figures floating around. Merely looking at a picture does not help. Some said the Million Man March had few participants while others said it had at least a million.

The Civil Rights March on Washington, which looks like well over a million people, is said by some to have consisted of about 250,000 people…and that crowd stretched from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial.

The 9-12 crowd, at best, stretched from the Capitol to the start of the Mall. Clearly less than a million showed up.
