For Colored Girls Gets November 5 Release Date (Video)

Tyler Perry’s adaptation of the hit play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf “ is generating significant media buzz. The film, based on Ntozake Shange’s seminal work, is described by the studio as a poetic exploration of what is to be of color and a female in this world.

“For Colored Girls” consists of a series of 20 poems performed by a cast of seven women characters, each of whom is known only by a color: “Lady in Yellow,” “Lady in Purple,” and so on. Tackling issues of love, abandonment, rape, and abortion, embodied by each woman’s story, the play drives home the power of womanhood.

“For Colored Girls” is directed by Tyler Perry and stars Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Kimberly Elise, Thandie Newton, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Whoopi Goldberg and Macy Gray. It hits theaters November 5, 2010.
