Looks like Katherine has disappeared for a bit, leaving us to focus on the newly turned Caroline (Candice Accola). Katherine turned her into a bloodsucker last episode and left her to figure things out on her own. What does she do after recovering from a near-death experience? She races to the Mystic Falls Carnival. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) wants to stake her like they did Vicky last season, but Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) won’t have it.
Matt (Zach Roerig) is completely mystified by the cold shoulder Caroline’s giving him now that she’s all vamped out, and so naturally he falls in love with her.
The truth about the Mason family is closer to being unearthed. Damon does a little spy work and figures out that the new Mason uncle (Taylor Kinney) has super strength. Tyler (Michael Trevino) discovers that his uncle also has eyes that glow when he’s angry. Maybe it’s not werewolves, but an Incredible Hulk thing.
The only sensible chick in town, Bonnie (Katerina Graham), tries to roast Damon on an open flame, but Elena pleads for his life.
Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) gets angsty about being killed and brought back to life. He’s still conflicted about whether humans and vamps can co-exist.
