With the mid-season finale airing December 10, Supernatural races to resolve some major plot points. In last week’s ‘Caged Heat,’ the boys learn that Crowley’s been stringing Sam and Dean along. He can’t get Sam’s soul back. So all of that work the Winchesters have been doing for Crowley, rounding up baddies, was a waste. On the bright side, Sam and Dean learn that gramps Samuel doesn’t consider them family and has sold them out to Crowley. They also learn that Crowley has promised to resurrect Sam and Dean’s mom if Samuel cooperates with Crowley. Castiel puts the kibosh on Crowley’s plans by burning his bones. Meg, who teams up with Dean and Sam to fight Crowley, manages to escape, but not before briefly making out with Castiel. Of course, she’ll be back.
Biggest shock of the episode, Sam finally admits to Dean that he does NOT want his soul back. That’s right. As Castiel and Crowley point out in the ‘Caged Heat,’ Sam’s soul has been in a cage with Lucifer and Michael for about a year and the two have nothing better to do than take out their frustrations on Sam’s soul. The issue: is Sam’s soul so broken that its reintroduction into Sam’s body would make soulless Sam go insane?
