The Social Network:Best Picture Says Chicago Critics

The Social Network has gotten a big thumbs up from the Chicago Film Critics Association, naming the movie the best picture of the year. The film also won praise from the Village Voice/LA Weekly year end poll. Last Sunday, The Social Network won best dramatic movie, best director, and best adapted screenplay at the Satellite Awards.

Earlier this month, the Social Network won Best Picture honors from the National Board of Review and the Washington, D.C. Film Critics Association, adding three more awards to its chest after also winning kudos from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Boston Society of Film Critics, and the New York Film Critics Online.

Colin Firth won the best actor prize for his portrayal of the stammering King George VI in The King’s Speech, while Black Swan’s Natalie Portman took the top actress honor. Christian Bale of The Fighter and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit topped the supporting categories.

For original screenplay, the Chicago film critics awarded Christopher Nolan’s summer mindbender Inception. The original score went to Clint Mansell of Black Swan. (According to reports, Mansell’s score has been disqualified for Oscar consideration.)

Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop was the Windy City’s top documentary. Toy Story 3 took home animated film, while A Prophet nabbed the foreign language honor.
