Oakland Union Leader Found Murdered In Home

OAKLAND, Calif. — SEIU 1021 Union members and neighbors reacted with shock early Wednesday after an East Bay labor leader and popular church deacon was found murdered in his Oakland home.

Authorities said Berresford ‘Berry’ Bingham’s son called two of the man’s co-workers with SEIU Local 1021 on Tuesday morning worried because he couldn’t contact his father. Bingham was the political director of the local.
When the co-workers arrived at Bingham’s home at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said, the door was ajar and his car was parked out in front. Concerned, the co-workers called the police.

Arriving officers, found Bingham’s body inside the Henry Street townhouse with visible signs of trauma. While police were not releasing details of his death, they were investigating it as a homicide. More.
