“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage joins new “X-Men” movie cast

“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage (Tyrion)  has joined Fox’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”  Bryan Singer, the director for the “X-Men: First Class” follow-up, made the announcement on Twitter.peter dinklage xmen

It’s not clear who Dinklage will place, but speculation immediately turned to Puck, the Alpha Flight member and former soldier of fortune who trapped the spirit of a centuries-old evil spirit within his own body, a process that reduced him to 3 feet 6 inches in height.

“While Singer & Co. are clearly deviating from the original Marvel Comics storyline by Chris Claremont and John Byrne — for instance, the time periods and team rosters are different — it would be odd to add a character outside of the core X-Men “family” to an already sprawling cast,” writes Kevin Melrose at SpinOff.  “What’s more, there’s nothing that says Dinklage has to play “the dwarf character.” Why not Senator Kelly (portrayed in 2000′s “X-Men” by Bruce Davison), or whichever public figure whose death in this version of the story puts mutants, and mankind, on the path to a dystopian future?”

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” features returning stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Holt and Jennifer Lawrence.    X-Men trilogy stalwarts, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore also return.  “X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens July 18, 2014.

“X-men: First Class” grossed $146,408,305 United States and Canadian box offices, and $207,215,819 in foreign markets, bringing its worldwide total to $353,624,124.
