LOS ANGELES – If movie-goers thought the fanaticism surrounding James Cameron’s epic “Titanic” hasd been long dead and buried, they were in for disappointment this week as word from Imax Corp. Wednesday revealed that it had taken in a whopping $7 million in China on the opening weekend release of “Titanic 3D”. Moreover, the 3D version of the tragic trans-Atlantic voyage hauled in $200 Mil in about 12 days according to box office reports.
Through Monday, Titanic 3D grossed around $210 million globally, of which around $15 million came from 408 Imax theaters worldwide.
The 3D gamble has proven successful given box office figures, but what about the soundtrack? A scan of Billboard’s charts shows no ‘heat’ for Celine Dion’s “Titanic” theme-song, ‘My Heart Will Go On.’
