Worst Film: “Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2” wins 7 Razzies

Honored as the worst film, “Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2” hauled in 7 Razzies at the 33rd Annual Golden Raspberry Awards on the eve of the Oscars.

twilight breaking dawn part 2 teaser trailerThe 33rd Annual Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) celebrates Hollywood’s worst films as a tongue-in-cheek foil to the more serious Academy Awards (Oscars) ceremony taking place this weekend. Not surprisingly, this year’s winner of the 33rd Annual Razzies goes to the much-hyped supernatural franchise, “Twilight Saga,” with “Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2,” garnering 7 Razzies.

“Twilight Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” won Worst Picture of the Year, Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart, Worst Supporting Actor for Taylor Lautner, Worst Screen Couple for Lautner and 12 year-old Mackenzie Foy, Worst Screen Ensemble, Worst Prequel-Remake-Rip-off or Sequel, and Worst Director for Bill Condon. Condon received the most withering reviews of any of the “Twilight Saga helmers,” reports Deadline Hollywood.

For the uninitiated, “The Twilight Saga” is a series of five romance fantasy films from Summit Entertainment based on the four “Twilight” series novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. The films star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner. Stewart plays an awkward young girl who falls for a vampire — to the dismay of her werewolf BBF.

“The Twilight Saga” has grossed over $2 billion in worldwide receipts and consists, to date, of five motion pictures. The first installment “Twilight” was released in 2008, hauling in $192.7 million worldwide. Sequel “Twilight: New Moon” (2009) grossed $296.6 million worldwide. Sequel “Twilight: Eclipse” (2010) generated 330.6 million worldwide. “Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1” brought in $281.2 million worldwide, and “Twilight; Breaking Dawn Paprt 2” earned just $291.9 million worldwide. If the box office numbers are any indication, Condon and crew very-well might have seen the Razzies coming.

Razzies 2013 took place at the Continental Breakfast Room of the Holiday Inn Express, Hollywood Walk of Fame hotel, less than half-a-mile from where the Academy Awards will be held tonight.
