Will Katherine prove to be the most likeable character on this show? Two weeks ago, Stefan (Paul Wesley) tried to figure out why Katherine (Nina Dobrev) returned to Mystic Falls, and instead learned that way back in 1864, she made a deal with the Lockwoods to save her own hide. Katherine revealed that she knew Papa Lockwood was a werewolf, and agreed to keep his secret if he would help her escape the big vamp bonfire. They concoct a scheme to sacrifice scores of vamps so she could safely hit the road.
But as even the best plans somehow often go to hell, Katherine’s was no exception so when Stefan and Damon tried to save her from the fires of hell, they’re shot and killed, forcing Katherine to turn them into vamps themselves. Stefan’s mind went pop with shock! Finally, Katherine revealed she was really in love with Stefan back in 1864 when she turned him and gave him an ultimatum: ditch Elena (Nina Dobrev) or watch her die a bloody awful death.
Elsewhere in the otherwise sleepy town, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) worked to get Mason (Taylor Kinney) to confess his wolf-man origins over an awkward lunch/dinner party at Elena’s house. Thereafter, Tyler (Michael Trevino) prodded Mason to tell him the truth about the Lockwood family recessive wolf gene.
