Vampire Diaries Recap: Kill or Be Killed

The wolfman story heated up last week on the “Vampire Diaries” when Mason (Taylor Kinney) spilled the beans to Tyler (Michael Trevino) about the Lockwood family “issue.” Apparently, the werewolf curse is triggered only when a Lockwood kills a person. Those Native-American shamen who cursed the Lockwoods way back when were really thoughtful, but you’d think creating werewolves from your enemies would make things worse.

Anyway, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) argued about how to best address the mortal threat the stronger werewolf Mason dude poses to vampires, and since Damon shanked Mason in the last episode, Stefan worked hard to clear the air…until he decided he too wanted to kill Mason. Problem was, Mason would not go down without a fight, and it quickly became clear why. Katherine, the town tramp from 1800s, has worked her way into Mason’s heart and pulled his strings.

Elsewhere, Elena (Nina Dobrev) worked hard to shelter Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) from the trouble he so desperately wants to get into by warning him to NOT get more involved with the Lockwood wolf mystery. But Jeremy, who wasn’t friends with Tyler last season, somehow manages to swing a foursome play-date with Tyler and a few chicks. During the party, Jeremy comes clean and Tyler confides in him. Later, Tyler gives the moonstone to Mason, who then hands it over to Katherine before smacking a wet one on her lips. The gods of Mystic Falls only know what’s going on with those two.

In a startling turn of events, Sheriff Lockwood (Marguerite MacIntyre) revealed that she’s not as stupid as everyone thought. She spiked Damon’s lemon-aide drink with verbain at the carnival on a tip from Mason. Sure enough, she learned that Damon, Stefan and her daughter are day-walking vamps, and that knowledge seems to have turned her into a worse mother than she previously was. Little wonder her daughter’s a narcissistic whacko… with a heart-o-gold.
