The action is definitely picking up in the second half of this season’s “Vampire Diaries.” In “Daddy Issues,” everyone’s not-so-favorite dad, Johnathan Gilbert, returns to Mystic Falls to help keep Elena safe. But he’s such a douche that even his own family wants him gone. Unwilling to heed sound advice to leave town, the guy works to assert himself as “head of household” in the Gilbert clan. It’s a fun story.
Elsewhere, Caroline confesses to Stefan that she told Tyler she’s a vampire. Worried that Tyler might try to exact revenge for Mason’s death, Stefan does his best mend fences. Problem is, the wolves know that Stefan and Damon will eventually kill Tyler if not stopped beforehand, so they sway Tyler to their line of thinking, which involves killing the Salvatore brothers.
In lighter news, Jeremy and Bonnie look like they might be getting closer to acknowledging their feelings now that Luka’s warlock charm has worn thin, In contrast, Caroline may have blown it with Matt because she stood him up and he caught her lying about it.
