Syfy announced Tuesday that one of its flagship original series, Eureka, was cancelled. In an official statement, Syfy executives said: “After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka.” But in a move that would eliminate fans’ concerns that the show would come to an abrupt end, since the series was in the middle of filming its fifth and final season, Syfy has ordered a final episode that will allow Eureka creators to wind up all storylines. Eureka co-creator and showrunner Jamie Paglia reacted to the news with a tweet:
Thrilled that our network and studio are giving us another episode to make a #Eureka series finale. The fans and show deserve it. Thank you.
Eureka cast members were also elated by the news: Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Jack Carter) called on fans to celebrate – “We have a great season coming up—17 episodes left to air. … Take a moment, get sad if you want to get sad, but there’s some really great work coming. I’m really proud of it. … We worked really hard on it. I’d love it if instead of a tone of sadness people could watch it and go out on a tone of joy.” And Erica Cerra (Deputy Jo Lupo) said of Eureka’s writers ” [they] have the opportunity to give us and the viewers closure—they’ve been loyal, loyal fans for years.”
