NATGEO TV exposes American Secrets in ‘Secret Access Week’ 2012

National Geographic Channel (NGC) kicks off a new television series Monday night with “Secret Access Week,” with specials offering an all-access look into America’s most valuable vaults, stealth technologies, extravagant mansions and covert operations.

While most Americans are gearing up for the upcoming Presidential election, National Geographic Channel goes inside the Secret Service in “Secret Service Files: Protecting the President” to show what it takes to protect the world’s most powerful man. From former President Bill Clinton’s diplomatic visit to Pakistan in 2000, during which terrorists were actively plotting attacks against him, to a live grenade launched at former President Bush in 2005, “Secret Service Files: Protecting the President” chronicles the agents personal stories of presidential protection.

In “Top Secret,” viewers will explore a facility as secret at Area 51, but less known. Plant 42, known by aerospace technicians as the “black world,” houses off-the-record projects that are developed in secret. Host Jack Ward, editor of Popular Science, shines a light on covert technology hidden all around us. From mysterious triangular aircraft to killer bots, National Geographic Channel shows viewers what the future might look like.

Ward returns later in the week to host “America’s Money Vault,” which gives viewers a look inside the Federal Reserve System. Hidden deep below the streets of New York City, hundreds of billions of dollars in gold bars, the wealth of nations, are tucked away in a bunker anchored to the bedrock of Manhattan Island itself. Never-before-seen footage taken from the New York Fed’s security cameras on 9/11 help tell the story of how the Federal Reserve’s actions that day prevented terrorists from crippling the financial markets in the days and weeks following the attack on the World Trade Center. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke provides a window into the history of economic meltdowns.
